MAN IS A SPIRIT
Genesis 1:27
²⁷ So God created mankind in his own image,  in the image of God he created them;  male and female he created them.
Man is a spirit being who lives in a body and has a soul. This means man who is a spirit owns the soul and the body. They are not part of a human spirit. They are his tools. With the body he conducts the realm of understanding. When we speak of the soul, we mean emotions, feelings, reason, understanding etc. but the spirit is God like and understands God. No wonder in 1 Corinthians 14:14  "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful."

What is the point here? He is telling us there is a spiritual language that our spirits speak that cannot be understood by our minds but God understands it. The spirit of man existed before his souls and physical faculties and lived in the realm of the spirit communing with His maker spirit to spirit. As a matter of fact it is in Genesis 2:7 where we see man receiving his body."⁷ Then the LORD God formed a man^[a] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. "

God is a spirit that is why man is a spirit because he was made in the likeness and the image of his maker. In the sixth day of creation, you will find that, God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26. This verse alone lets us know that; the father (God) is a spirit, the son Jesus is a spirit and Holy Ghost is a spirit. This can only mean that, what they took counsel among themselves according to the above portion of the scripture to create must have been a spirit. So when the word of God says we look like God it doesn’t mean that our physical appearance. After all, we are all different in the way we appear physically. We have different races in the world so surely, if God was speaking of a physical man, a question would arise who really looks like God since some people are black, others white others tall others short etc. many children of God think they are physical beings and that has made it hard for them to relate with God spiritually. They try to bring everything into carnality others even go as far as imitating what the children of Israel did back in the Old Testament. Just for the record; the children of Israel lived in a dispensation of physical realm. They were required to give all manner of sacrifices and offerings as stipulated by the Law of Moses. But Christ came with another law which doesn’t require to behave or to obey the law or pray in the mountain.

But he said John 3:6 ⁶ "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit." We are from the spirit and we are expected to function in the realm or the spirit. John 4:24  (²⁴ God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”) the only place ordained of God to worship and serve the Lord successfully is in the spirit and truth not in physical place. A man’s full potential is found in his spirit. It is in a recreated human spirit that all the qualities of God dwell. When man functions from his spirit, he/she accomplishes more than the one function from his/her mind. The soul understands the body while the spirits understands God.
Feed your spirit with the word of God which is its food. By doing so, your spirit man will grow and become stronger and stronger.

Ephesians 4:13 :¹³ until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
