Romans 5:17
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

Righteousness is received by faith not worked for. There is no amount of work or labor that can be declared righteous. Doing good things to God and to people is good but it is not enough. Selling all ones belongings and giving to the poor is good, but still is not enough. Giving your body to be burned may sound convincing to God, but by doing so, no one can be declared righteous. Abraham believed what God said and it was counted to him righteous. (Genesis 15:6)

The righteousness of a born again person is the same righteousness that is in God. Righteousness cannot be quantified. You can grow in faith, knowledge, grace, favor, etc bit you cannot grow I righteousness because it doesn’t grow. You are either righteous or unrighteous. There is nothing like more righteous or less righteous, Jesus was crucified together with two thieves one insulted Jesus while the other seemed to understand some few things that the other didn’t;
•    He knew he was a sinner
•    He knew Jesus could save him from going to hell
(Luke 23:42-43)
 Just like Abraham, the criminal obtained righteousness because he believed in Jesus. His works couldn’t qualify him since he was a criminal. Somebody once said that we are all sinners saved by grace. This statement that is common among Christians isn’t true because, you cannot be a sinner and at the same time you are born again it just doesn’t add up. The reason many identify with such statements is because of their ignorance of the word of God and religious backgrounds. They try their best to be righteous, always walking in self condemnation hoping that somehow God will grant unto them righteousness. What they don’t realize is that they are already declared righteous before God. They just don’t know it. They are trying to be what they already are. What such people need is to know what the word of God says about the new creation.
All one needs to know is that anybody in Christ Jesus is already declared righteous. It is not a feeling; it is what the word says. It is very important to learn to see oneself through the eyes of God. Now that God calls you His righteousness, accept it and be bold about it. God sees us through the righteousness of Christ, which means when He sees you, He sees the Christ in you.             (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Your salvation is the custodians of the righteous. As long as you are born again you are righteous. You may make mistakes and somehow find yourselves sinning, don’t remain in sin because sin is not of God.
God in His great knowledge knew this, so He made a provision for any child of God that may sin to remain in His righteousness simply by asking for forgiveness from God (1 John1:9)
Never let your heart be condemned by sins which God has already forgiven you. To God, they don’t exist neither should they exist to you. The devil uses sin consciousness to make you think like a sinner. Never accept it. It’s a mirage. Sin consciousness decreases your confidence, it makes you live in self condemnation and affects your day to day productivity, it makes you feel unworthy, unqualified and   limits your potential. The good news is that, you don’t have to live in sin consciousness in anyway    (1 john3:20-21)
